HCS Board Meeting on Health & Safety Procedures

The meeting was scheduled for Monday, July 26, at 3:00PM at the Annie C. Merts Administrative Building, which is located at 200 White St.

HCS administrators suggested health and safety measures for this upcoming school year during the July 1 work session. Wearing masks was made optional then, however, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP)recently suggested for students and school administrations to require the use of masks within buildings and facilities.

COVID-19 cases, to include cases of the Delta variant, has been on a steady increase around Alabama. The Alabama Department of Public Health (ADPH) had not yet released guidance for school systems for the upcoming school year when the board meeting was held but shortly after released a "Back to School Guidance." At the meeting, board members discussed considerations and shared feedback from their constituents in an effort to help families plan for the upcoming school year.

The BOE issued a mask mandate in accordance to the recommendations of the CDC and AAP. Students and staff will be required to wear masks while indoors on HCS campuses and on buses.
